Top Custom Design Trends to Take Inspiration From

Home decorating projects hold so many thrilling possibilities. As we spend more time at home these days, a little beautification here and there won’t hurt. In fact, renovating and redecorating your home may be exactly what you need to wake up every day feeling inspired, energized, and empowered.

On a budget? These projects can be even more exciting when you decide to bring out the DIY toolkit and implement these changes on your own. From classic tones to punchy accents and bespoke designs, you can create the home of your dreams.

To help you get started, we’ve consulted with some designers, industry experts, and founders for their two cents. Here are some of the top custom design trends to take inspiration from:

Add Customized Accents

When it comes to your interior, you should create a space as custom and fitted to you as possible. A cost effective way to achieve a “custom look” that still feels high quality would be to reach out to an artist whose work you love, and see if they could create some custom throw pillows, blankets, or even fabric for curtains for you. So many artists and designers have access to creating custom patterns, and can do it for you at a great price when compared to larger, luxury custom companies.

Invest in Your Home Office

My one tip for beautifying your home in 2021 would be to really invest in your home office! Remote working is going to be more common going forward, and more people will be making the switch to full remote work even when the pandemic eases off, so you need to ensure your home includes a space to work in peace.

Convert a spare room in your home to a fully decorated home office, this will both improve the look of your home (as you will no longer be working from your bed, or a temporary table in your living room) but you will also improve your levels of productivity. A win-win on all counts.

Keep it Neutral With Earth Tones

Earth tones are a continuous design trend. Bringing in nature-inspired colors in the form of greenery adds a fresh pop of color to the earthy tones in your decor aesthetic. Choosing low-maintenance plants like succulents will add life and variety to your space.

Accessorize With Tropical Decor

During spring and summer months, there's little that's more refreshing than the beautiful tropical weather. A splash of coral and turquoise in your home is a wonderful way to embrace the warm atmosphere without ever feeling like a change in the weather. Filling your home with elements of bright greens, soft yellows and tropical flowers will make it feel like you're on vacation whenever you want.

Upgrade Your Outdoor Space

Due to the pandemic, we cannot really socialize with our friends. This is why we redesigned our patio and extended it so it would be larger than our previous design. Having a good wide patio will allow us to cater to a few people without breaking the social distancing protocols. This also lessens the infection risks since it is outdoors. Our patio has the picnic/summer feels so even if we are just at home, our feelings are transported to that vacation place we have been dreaming about since last year. It is best to add a grill nearby so the family can also enjoy outdoor bonding over delicious grilled foods.

Bring The Outdoors In

Bringing the outdoors in with live greenery is a trend that I have always loved. Plants purify the air and are aesthetically pleasing. Whether you just incorporate a simple easy to care spider plant or go big with a green wall, adding plants will definitely take your interior decor up a notch.

Consider Open Shelving

Open shelving first became popular in the kitchen but the trend is now expanding throughout the home including living rooms and other areas of the home. Custom open shelving can provide you with an easy space to showcase some of your favorite decor pieces while making it convenient to access everyday items. Hence, this trend is not only stylish but functional as well.

Go For Hand-Painted Accent Walls

One customer design trend to take inspiration from is hand-painted walls or canvases. Even if you don't have the budget or ability to hand paint a wall or canvas for your home, you can still purchase a print of one, or hire someone else to do it for you. Having a custom wall painting or canvas can elevate a room to take it to the next level.
